Reviews for this release

Still we get unwanted break tags inserted when editing in the RTE (HTML) module. As they skipped that part in 7.2 I did very much expect it to be addressed in the following upgrade, *sigh*

Its a good CMS, however critical user bugs from Microsoft IE 10 and 11 create havoc for this CMS Rad HTML Editor. Using Firefox seems to work the best, and is my personal second choice of a web browser as I believe more in IE security. However IE needs to get it together with these bugs. Not sure but maybe a newer version of telerik is needed along with some trouble tickets to micrsoft support. I am sure by next version updates from Microsoft or Telerik will be the fix, not DNN.

Attempted upgrade from CE 7.1.2 - failed - 5% ERROR occured - Error: Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'dbo.ModuleDefinitions' with unique index 'IX_ModuleDefinitions'. The statement has been terminated. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError........ - Restored from backup - uninstalled Module Creator (bug supposed to be fixed in this version) - Retried upgrade - Success

I was told this would fix the email bug found in 7.2.0 at However, it did not fix it, which left us embarrassed with our clients waiting for their website emails to work again.
by bonhamsurf on Jan 23, 2014 at 12:45 AM
that fix was applied and is in 7.2.1 (it was actually contributed by a community member). This would suggest that your bug is different from the one that was fixed - I would suggest creating a new issue at and providing as much detail as possible so we can reproduce and then fix it.

Maybe 'sbwalker' does not know the release process?!

I accidentally clicked the Publish Release checkbox when I uploaded the packages earlier today.

an hell: a lot of really bad performance problem. It continue to raise exceptions sitting down the entire server, too many bugs. Avoid, avoid...

we've had only a couple of reports of this - it seems that a failure is happening in the script (could you try F12 and see if anything is logged, and also look at the request in fiddler) - if you see an issue please log it to To workaround your current issue just go to

As usual, this release continues to provide an excellent socially aware, 'latest-technology' framework. Been using DNN (DotNetNuke ! ) since version 1.0.0 Love it! Duncan.
by thectosian on Mar 3, 2014 at 3:18 PM
Clearly the best version for a while. Already running this version on some new web pages. Good work!
by TobiasSwe on Feb 28, 2014 at 12:16 PM
Could I give less than one I would. If you are not experienced with DNN, get ready for some pain. Default templates have problems preventing login after setup. Unless you change the web.config as mentioned in their own forums: That's kind of crap. We also found the spam popup hell that also stopped the site dead. Fix: in the default.aspx.cs look for this: ManageGettingStarted(); and put a // before it in the line and save. Total crap that you could call this tested!

FYI the issue is actually with a missing Microsoft patch - if you're using extenionless urls (such as with advanced url's) then if you're using iis7/7.5 you should be fully patched. If you are not you will be missing which is required otherwise only humanfriendly urls (with extensions) are supported.

All problems resolved. Thanks to Cathal's review and suggestions. After a clean upgrade from 7.2.0, experiencing multiple problems. .. Admin and Host links in control bar do not work .. Page settings do not work (after going to the page management page - settings fail to show) .. Page permissions were modified (home not accessible to unauthorized users - and should be) .. Dropdown list selections, save/update fail to work correctly I've checked all IIS settings and permissions...all seem ok

thanks to a user kindly providing me a copy of their site to debug, I have found the issue exists with the iconbar controlpanel (deprecated in April 2010) - please see for more information and how to resolve this issue

Always good to see a new version around

Upgrading an existing site from 5.6 seemed to go OK until hitting the upgrade to 7.2.1 Then much went haywire: editing, drag and drop and and settings controls have disappeared. This seems like a major upgrade rather than minor improvements.
by jcdnn on Feb 5, 2014 at 8:26 PM
Sorry to hear - please note we've been told that people with drag&drop problems are caused by their application pool using classic pipeline (DNN requires integrated pipeline). Furthermore some people with unpatched servers have needed to run the Microsoft patch described @ to fix those issues.

Smooth upgrade with no issues. Seems to be faster response time from my site as well.

Upgraded from 7.0.0 and all admin/host options are broken, and unable to add new records in Form and List module.

thanks to a user kindly providing me a copy of their site to debug, I have found the issue exists with the iconbar controlpanel (deprecated in April 2010) - please see for more information and how to resolve this issue Note: forms and list is an opensource module and not part of DNN so you will have to check with that project to get a resolution to that issue.

Unwanted break tags still being inserted when editing in the HTML module: Other telerik issues still present that was reported but closed: Cant fix - wont fix - so why include Telerik if this is how you handle its bugs?
by lwbrown on Jan 22, 2014 at 8:11 PM
Yep & the email alert has arrived empty as well. Can't see any mention of this release yet on the DNN website either, but then with that website I could easily be looking in the wrong place. Hey ho.
