Reviews for this release

Tested new version briefly, it IS faster now. But, if you really need best performance for your website, especially if it is large, try Turbo SQL scripts from http://dnnscript.codeplex.com. (Rating value increased upon request by DNN Corp. PS: Will, in case you forgot: Somebody called me Sebastian - and I know, that it was my mother ;))

Thanks leupold, Maybe one of these days we will impress you enough to get more than 3 stars ;) -Will

After upgrade from a 07.02.02 (303) version on one of my dev sites, I received the "Validation of viewstate MAC failed" error. Plus, The HTML editor will not show content or the HTML/Source toggle. Also, All the custom CSS I added to the Style Sheet via the Site Settings>Stylesheet Editor, prior to upgrade, no longer works...no matter what skin is used (Update: Thank you Extra260-"Seems there is a new option - "Include Portal.css" which is turned off by default???", did not see the checkbox at first). And, the current skin's (NEVO) menu and Slider will only show when I am logged in as SU. That being said, DNN is a great product.
by Rafter on Jun 12, 2014 at 3:05 PM
Hi Rafter, Sorry about the portal.css being disabled on upgrade. That was definitely an oversight on our part which we will be correcting. I would like to get more details about the other issues you are having. Send me an email and I'll see what we can do to correct these issues. will.morgenweck - at - dnncorp.com

This update is flawed. Tried to update a 7.2 site to a 7.3 and on first load of the site after pushing the update, everything stopped working. [ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Upgraded from 7.2.2 to 7.3 on a BootStrap-enabled skin. Love the performance enhancements but getting odd results with some JavaScript libraries. After the upgrade, various BootStrap, jQuery Tools and FancyBox code work properly when logged in as Host, however; they do not work when logged in as a registered user.

Hi jkrogers, Glad you are enjoying the performance enhancements. I bet we we can help you out with the other issues you are having. Please email will.morgenweck - at - dnncorp.com if you would like some help troubleshooting. Thanks, Will

I was planning the 7.2.2 upgrade and was good with that when the upgrade for 7.3 was out so I tried that one on our dev server. on the surface great speed on basic modules. Of course the jquery was updated so there was some fixes there. Then there was HTTPRequest errors I was able to get around these but the same (self created)modules require a bit more memory to work so I have a memory issue to deal with. (great speed feature getting in the way of module working). I think I will wait on this version.

Speed improvements are good (I did my own PageSpeed comparison) - definitely better for SEO etc. Bad: There is a NASTY bug with anyone on URL Master still - seems that this was not tested. Fix is here: http://www.ifinity.com.au/Products/Support_Forums/forumid/8/postid/13341/scope/posts#13341 There is a setting for the Site Stylesheet which defaults to FALSE when you upgrade so you lose all customisations. I would have set this to True to preserve existing functionality

Update - Seems there is a new option - "Include Portal.css" which is turned off by default??? WTF - Upgraded test 7.2.2 site (copy of my production site), portal.css is no longer injected into combined css. This release totally breaks DNN. Do not upgrade!!
by Extra260 on Jun 12, 2014 at 3:57 AM
Hi Extra260, This was definitely an oversight on our part, which we will correct. Glad you were able to get your site working again. Next time we will do better and maybe we can get a few more stars out of you for our rating :) Thanks, Will

While there are a few minor issues (I blogged fixes) overall this release is great and works perfect with my HammerFlex open source bootstrap skin.

@CreativeAvatar: I had to uninstall avt.RedirectToolkit and then the installation proceeded as normal and installed successfully. It's most likely an extension causing this error.

Upgraded from 7.2.2, all good. Some minor issues, but no impact to functionality. Noticed tons of updates in this release, wow, way to go.

Speed is not better than before or it's little bit better because actually it's not tangible. and some simple and important bugs is there such as not handling error when you Disable some pages and you will get error 404 and When you upgrade old release with Other language for default language, automatically the default come back to English and some mistake happen.... I think need too much hard work to reach standard website speed like other CMS. BIG PROBLEM is on JQUERY, it is not selectable like old release and we have many conflicted command and some things not working like sliders, scrolling text and..... I never install this release and you can see Speed test before-after for a real website on http://gtmetrix.com/compare/NC2WnFdc/MdVGf3MJ
by arminrahimian on Jun 11, 2014 at 10:03 PM
Hi arminrahimian, Speed improvements will obviously vary based upon the way you have built out your site. When you compare a new install of 7.2.2 to a new install of 7.3.0 you will see at least a 20% improvement in performance. The modules, skins and images that you use will have an impact on the results. I would like to hear more about other issues that you are having. Please email will.morgenweck -at- dnncorp.com if you would like to share your feedback. Thanks, Will

Many bugs still in it, and checking for HttpContext.Current.Request.Browser.Cookies always returns false in Firefox and Chrome under all conditions.

Hi Mr. Strohl, I believe this is a review of the Beta release. Didn't we get some of these bugs addressed for you in the final release? If we didn't, please let me know which issues you are having so that we can get them corrected for the next release. I think you have my email address already ;) Thanks, Will

If jdmenu gives javascript error: Error: TypeError: $.browser is undefined source file: http://www.dnndev.me/DesktopModules/JDMENU/JS/jquery.bgiframe.js Line: 9 do this: save this file to ur skin folder: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-migrate-1.0.0.js add this to ur skin <dnn:DnnJsInclude ID="DnnJsInclude1" runat="server" FilePath="jquery-migrate-1.0.0.js" PathNameAlias="SkinPath" /> It looks a little faster. speed is very important, so please work on it more.

The social sharing module doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. Page seems to be a lot faster.

One thing after another breaks in this release. First some modules, now Jquery won't load (for some things you can't do the DNN way, you have to cut and paste). Scheduler issues. Very poor. I'm also running into another issue that I see someone else has here. When trying to edit content I get: Uncaught ReferenceError: OnDnnEditorClientSubmit is not defined
by wwwcoder on Jun 24, 2014 at 3:56 PM

I have upgraded to 7.3.0 on 2 instances. On first instance all went well. On second instance I got the mentioned issue with the text editor not displaying the content and none of the buttons (HTML and Preview) where clickable. It got "resolved" by logging in with another host account and then it started working, Both with the new host account as well as with the "old" host account.

Upgraded from 07.02.02 to 07.03.00 all seemed to worked, no errors with the wizard. However when I clicked the link to return to the website it now returns a 500 error. Any suggestion!!! I really don't want to rely on the back up to restore the website.

Performed a new DNN installation for a new project. I noticed that Administrators are not able to view folders through File Management nor through HTML Editor. All functionality for Image Manager are disabled for Administrators as well, making it impossible to upload or add images. Not good for site productivity.

Wauw, speed has greatly improved on all my sites.. I did however had a problem with an older skin that the vertical navigationbar was no longer appearing, but I managed to solv that.

I Accepted that Performance increased, But i've faced with two issue: 1)After Upgrading from 7.2.2 to 7.3 i am going to change my Skin. when i changed Skin i am going to Portal Settings but Unfortunately error occurred that (Selection out of range Parameter name: value ) at DotNetNuke.Web.UI.WebControls.DnnSkinComboBox.OnLoad(EventArgs e) 2) i am going to merge my css and js files in host settings for performance, after that i see my Control Bar in Firefox or IE are not display well and every js or css file for that are not loaded

Upgrade was smooth, and performance seems slightly better. However, tabbed forms on some modules were broken after upgrade. Not ready for prime time.

Great job improving performance, but still lots more to be done. Looking forward to more contributions from our community members via pull requests on github.

Still full of bugs - not the least of which: the new module navigation breaks in Chrome and Firefox and IE if you scroll to the right too far! Do you guys not playtest this stuff? SERIOUSLY!
by m1k3p on Jun 12, 2014 at 1:07 PM
Hi m1k3p, You are right about the scrolling bug. Not sure how we missed that one, but we did. We will get it corrected. I would really like to hear more about the bugs that are affecting you the most. Please email me if you have time. will.morgenweck -at- dnncorp.com. Thanks, Will

Yes, page load speed is improving, but it does no good if you can’t use the site. Problem just like Rafter, after upgrading from 7.2.2 my slider (Layer Slider markup inside HTML Module) is only viewable if logged in as Admin. I updated the module permissions with no luck. I decided to delete the html module and create a new one thinking that might fix the issue. However once in Edit Content mode, the editor would not let me switch from Design to HTML view (yet another problem.) I got around this by switching to Basic Text Box mode in the editor. Alas recreating the HTML module for my slider only yielded the same results, slider only visibly when logged in as Admin. These were just a few problems discovered after playing around for 10 minutes. This release is definitely not ready for prime time. Just because an application doesn’t crash shouldn’t mean it should be called stable – yet again.
by skrantzman on Jun 11, 2014 at 10:00 PM
There definitely sounds like you are having some issues with the upgrade. I'm wondering if your browser has cached older versions of some the javascript libraries for your site. Please email will.morgenweck -at- dnncorp.com if you would like some help troubleshooting this issue. Thanks, Will
