Reviews for this release

I judge this with 5 stars for the installation process. Although I am not very familiar with "web way" of doing things I did not have any problems in installing Install package to virtual machine with XP and SQL 2008. I will put comments in later stages as well.

The New Install package is good - followed the instructions, everything's OK but browsing errors out. hint: In IIS Use Classic .NET AppPool, rather than DefaultAppPool. The Source Code package will result in a site that throws a NullReferenceException. This is because it's missing web.config - rename developer.config to web.config. Also need to copy Telerik.Web.UI.dll from New Install package.

Nearly a month since release, plenty of failures and still not a comment from DNN Corporation.

There are several installing issues not being installed correctly; i've evaluated it with the recommended starterkit as a clean install on Vista home premium on HP HDX QUAD core 4 gb internal mem with Visual studio beta 2 and asp 3.5/4.0 framework and IIS 7.0. I had to adjust several things in the development config as well as the default DNN Location structure according to VS2010 requirements.

Unstable Version

VSI starterkit still won't build on default install. Delete HTML directory under DesktopModules for those out there who need help. Does anyone actually check the release packages? Also for anyone who uses Telerik WebControls make sure you check the Binding redirect section in the Web.config. If you have a different version than the packaged one it can cause errors. Update to proper version.

New Install Source Code version as of Dec 30h is STILL throwing errors towards Telerik references in the web.config (when trying to install from the install wizard)! Could not load file or assembly 'Telerik.Web.UI' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified: <add name="RadUploadModule" type="Telerik.Web.UI.RadUploadHttpModule, Telerik.Web.UI" />

This is my biggest dissapointment i could ever expect from DNN staff... it´s all about DBO permissions. Guys, don´t bother visit this... ... Some days ago i was talking with one of the dnn team members, and he told me that for the moment wait for another release...

Again, a huge disappointment! Where is the quality? Did you ever tried to install the update of this version? An advice for everyone, don't use this version! As a (former!) promoter of using DotNetNuke in several organizations, the 5.x versions are turning out to be one of the greatest (technical) disappointments in my carreer. I'm making a fool of me every time! This is it, i'm done with DNN. :-(

This version still has a lot of bugs especially this one: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot find the user 'xxxxxx', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. This happens at upgrade and even a fresh install. It may because in my security -> users the user is not in there but this error never came up before this upgrade and it been like that since version 5.0.0.

Eventhough it says "Fixed issues with the Starter Kit which missing HTML module files", there is no Starter kit for DotNetNuke to download in this site or in the main Could you please let me know where to find this starter kit ?

For installing using optional prefix; -update following line "UPDATE Lists SET SystemList = 'True' WHERE ListName = 'DataType'" to "UPDATE {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}Lists SET SystemList = 'True' WHERE ListName = 'DataType'" in the "\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\05.02.01.SqlDataProvider" file.

There is an error in stored procedure name as 'GetTabCount'. --> Invalid column name AdminTabId. AdminTabId was in 'Portals' table in 4 series version, but now onwards, this column present in new talble name as PortalLocalization. So please correct stored procedure 'GetTabCount'
by sushilpatil on Dec 25, 2009 at 6:18 AM
Problem installing if you use the optional prefix. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid object name 'Lists'. Seems object lists in the install script does not pick up the optional prefix resulting in the above crash. Solution: leave out the optional prefix, installs ok.
