Reviews for this release

GREAT, have you guys seen this!? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yghiC_U2RaM I´ve personaly tried and it works, on a shared environment without GRANT EXEC it takes too long to complete and if the memory timed out is set to less than 5 min. it fails, but on the other hand and locally...success! i´m stuned! not to say that my site is about hacking and i´ve received today several LOGIN FAILURES...

Good to appreciate the future of DNN CL, but not fit for production environment. Positive side is that existing CL solutions continue to be supported. DNN CL is not an automatic fit for all and most ML sites will want to continue with their existing solution. 05.05 has some nice improvements, but commercial ML sites that want to use the DNN CL features, better sit this one out and wait for 05.06

Flawless upgrade. Thanks!

Is time to change CMS !! There's a bug on Language Selector !! Stop !!!
by blondie63 on Sep 16, 2010 at 10:24 PM
We upgraded from 5.4.2 to 5.5.0 with no issues. Truly the best upgrade so far!

Xidius, there is C# support in module development. The Framework isn't in C#, but there is a C# port of it available. I'm not sure what you're referring to with "quicklier" though, perhaps you develop your C# faster than you do your VB? congrats
by christoc on Sep 5, 2010 at 4:24 PM
There is no C# support, it works quicklier! everybody knows that half, may be more of all modules has written on C#, why they call c# support unsupported technology it's really question for me

The localization is POORLY tested. It's a breaking change to upgrade your existing localization solution to this version and very messy to try and convert. Language once selected does not persist. Telerik DLL Version in the install package is different then the upgrade package breaking module development scenarios. If you can skip this one I recommend it.

Excellent release, I've upgraded all my DNN based websites to 5.5 without issue! Thanks team

While I am glad to see DNN finally support more localization in the core, I am very disappointed to see that human friendly urls were destroyed in the process. Things like this are what are making the decision to not renew my DNN Pro subscription easier. There are very little advantages of Pro over Community.

IMPORTANT if Sitemap.aspx is messed up. Check whether your file permissions have changed on your host server after the upgrade. For some strange reason, my dotnetnuke permissions got lost, and this is why Sitemap.aspx was messed up. I'm not the only one this happened to. Problem fixed after I contact my hosting provider and re-enable the required user permissions.

The new feature Content Localization is an absolutely superfluous thing. A new page for each language is unacceptable for me. The community solution (Ealo + Nuntio Content) should be the right way for multi-language.
by leondai on Aug 25, 2010 at 12:08 PM
Yes, Localization screwed up my web site. Better to wait for 5.5.1+
by jtorresleon on Aug 25, 2010 at 5:12 AM
@OnyakTech Why this U-turn? First you say that this release is not ready to take in production and the day after you say it's an outstanding release?
by acandael on Aug 24, 2010 at 7:29 AM
Folks, DNN blew it on Content Localization. Really blew it. We do not recommend this release. Human Friendly URL's do not work in Multiple Language mode. The sitemap.aspx is royally screwed up. The process to use Content Localization is badly implemented. DNN Quality Assurance & the Developers did a VERY poor job. Only thing that's good is the speed increase.
by JGSDNNFan on Aug 23, 2010 at 9:00 PM
Outstanding release! Can't wait for the 5.5.1 stabilization release that will make this the most powerful CMS system available for years to come!
by OnyakTech on Aug 23, 2010 at 7:52 PM
The new features make this release very compelling for Enterprise implementations. The speed metrics make it compelling for all. The content localization is nice, a little bulky and going to take a while to get my head around completely, but very exciting.
by pwrenner on Aug 23, 2010 at 6:55 PM
The new feature Content localization does not work for humanfriendly url and the content localization and static localization does not work together. I think its a pity that a feature like this, in some parts very nice implemented, falling like a stone to the bottom at the sea.

Installed 5.5 for a new website. New install ran smoothly of course and I was happy to see that a few blocking issues from 5.4 where solved. Good job!
by superska on Aug 23, 2010 at 6:13 PM
best x.x.0 release yet. good job guys.
by richccampbell on Aug 23, 2010 at 5:37 PM
I tried a 5.1 to 5.5 upgrade a dozen times, it kept crashing, over and over. Finally I downloaded the highest 5.2, 5.3, and 5.4 upgrades and ran them in sequence. Every one went perfectly.
by sgray128 on Aug 21, 2010 at 11:15 PM
For us newbies where are the instructions on how to install the upgrade...thanks
by obeckles on Aug 21, 2010 at 6:00 PM
Thanks for the link christoc but that should be in the documentation or release notes here on codeplex... i sent you a message... my rate is still 3!

upgrade 4.4 to 5.5. portal does not load, no errors observed. from vt2020 to start debugging, do not load the portal. solution: put in the portal alias port number. is a bug?
by martinezalonso on Aug 20, 2010 at 1:16 AM
5.05.00 setup worked smoothly and solved the following issue for me: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/381545/scope/posts/Default.aspx Thank you.
by ShamilS on Aug 19, 2010 at 9:32 AM
would have given this a 5 star if the upgrade didn't go back to the telerik references. However, using the install build and not the upgraded build resolved this issue. No errors - this dev site has been upgraded from dnn 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4.2, 5.4.4 and now to 5.5 without issue. Nice work!!

The JQuery banner module I believe is third party code and nothing to do with this release (please contact third party vendor).
by nukealexs on Aug 18, 2010 at 8:57 PM
It's FAST, and works better than ever!
by hismightiness on Aug 18, 2010 at 8:50 PM
After an upgrade from 5.4 to 5.5, localization seems to work but Big problem with JQuery Banner module which is always on edit mode on the pages...
